AMOS 2025 – CALL FOR SESSIONS
Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns, Australia
23-27 June 2025
Deadline – 11:59PM AEST Wednesday 25 September
The organisers of the 31st Conference of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society are calling for session proposals to lead key discussions in meteorology, oceanography, and climate science. The Conference will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre 23-27 June 2025. The Cairns region, with its tropical weather patterns, proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient Daintree Rainforest, will serve as a rich backdrop for delegates. This unique environment offers direct insights into tropical meteorology, marine ecosystems, and the visible impacts of climate change providing an ideal setting for advancing research and fostering meaningful discussions at the AMOS Conference.
We are seeking session proposals that address important research questions across a broad spectrum of topics within the AMOS science community. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase innovative research, foster collaboration, and engage with leading experts in the field.
Proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
1. Atmospheric Processes: Dynamics of the atmosphere, including cloud formation, convection, and impacts on weather and climate.
2. Oceanographic Processes: Ocean dynamics, including circulation, coastal processes, upwelling, and their role in global climate.
3. Land Surface Processes: Interactions between land surface and atmosphere, including soil moisture, vegetation, and energy balance.
4. Tropical Meteorology and Oceanography: Processes and dynamics in tropical regions, including monsoons, cyclones, and their interactions with oceanic systems.
5. Polar Meteorology and Oceanography: Processes in polar regions, focusing on ice dynamics, polar climate systems, and challenges in observation and modelling.
6. Climate Variability and Change: Factors driving climate variability on seasonal to decadal scales, and their long-term impacts.
7. Extreme Weather Events: Prediction and analysis of extreme weather events like cyclones, floods, and heatwaves.
8. Weather: Advances in weather forecasting, severe weather analysis, and developments in predictive modelling.
9. Observations and Modelling: Advancements in observational tools, remote sensing, and numerical models to enhance understanding of atmospheric and oceanic systems.
10. Renewable Energy, Weather, and Climate: Impact of weather and climate on renewable energy generation, including strategies for solar, wind, and hydropower integration.
11. Urban Environment and Air Pollution Meteorology: Urban meteorology, focusing on heat islands, air quality, and the impacts of urbanisation on local climate.
12. Water Resources and Hydrology: Research on water cycles, hydrological modelling, and the effects of climate variability on water resources.
13. Agricultural Meteorology: Interactions between weather, climate, and agriculture, including the impacts of extreme weather on food security.
14. Biodiversity and Ecosystems: Impact of climate and weather on biodiversity and ecosystems, focusing on species distribution and conservation.
15. Indigenous Knowledge: Understanding and integrating Indigenous knowledge and practices into weather, water, and climate research.
16. Climate Services: Development and application of climate services to support decision-making.
17. Weather and Climate Impacts, Compound Events, Risk, and Disaster Risk Reduction: Analysis of socio-economic impacts of weather and climate, including compound events, with strategies for risk assessment and disaster resilience.
18. Social, Health, and Economic Impacts of Climate Change: Effects of climate change on health, society, and economies, with a focus on vulnerability and adaptation.
19. AI and Data Analytics in AMOS Sciences Application of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data in the AMOS sciences.
20. Communicating the AMOS Sciences: Strategies for effectively communicating meteorology, oceanography, and climate science to various audiences.
21. Education and Outreach: Strategies for educating and engaging the public and communities in meteorology, oceanography, and climate science.
22. Other: Emerging topics or interdisciplinary research areas that contribute to meteorology, oceanography and climate science.
If you are interested in proposing a session, please complete the following form by Wednesday, 25 September, and be a part of creating an unforgettable AMOS 2025!
